What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a values-led, evidence-based framework that helps individuals and their support networks understand and respond to behaviours of concern — not by suppressing them, but by addressing the unmet needs that drive them.

Person-centred

PBS starts with the individual — their strengths, preferences, communication style, and quality of life goals. Every plan is built around the person, not the behaviour.

Function-focused

Behaviours of concern serve a purpose. A Functional Behaviour Assessment identifies what the behaviour communicates — whether that's sensory need, avoidance, attention, or access — so we can address the root cause.

Proactive & preventative

Rather than reacting to crisis, PBS focuses on changing environments, routines, and interactions to prevent behaviours from occurring in the first place.

Skill-building

We teach alternative, socially appropriate ways to meet the same needs — communication skills, emotional regulation, coping strategies, and independence.

Who PBS can help

Autistic children and adults with behaviours of concern
Individuals with learning disabilities or complex needs
Those with co-occurring ADHD and emotional dysregulation
Children and young people in educational or residential settings
Families and carers seeking structured, consistent strategies
